As a travel blogger, photography is almost as important a skill to have as writing. I often find myself on the lookout for new camera gear and accessories that will help facilitate our travel as well as improve our travel photography game.

Believe it or not, when I first started out way back in 2012, I had very little to no knowledge of photography whatsoever. I didn't know what aperture was, or what focal lengths were, and I was completely clueless for more than 3 years before I started to get a hang of it.

In between those times, I was using the Sony RX100, which is an extremely capable compact camera that I would recommend you get as a beginner. It will allow you to take great photos and videos without knowing a lot about photography and all its nitty-gritty details.

It was not until I bought my first interchangeable mirrorless camera, the Sony a6500 in 2017, that I started to get the hang of it. After that, I am always on the lookout for new ways to take my travel photography game to the next level, and more often than not, it is these accessories that continue to help me become a better travel photographer.

After years of dabbling in the world of Sony camera accessories, I have decided to compile a list of must-have Sony camera accessories that every traveler should have in their camera bag. Without further ado, let's take a look at the 12 best Sony camera accessories you should check out, starting with a lightweight tripod.

1. Peak Design Capture Clip

Peak Design Capture Clip

A Peak Design Capture Clip is one of my favorite gear items that I recently got for myself, and I am in love with it. I highly recommend the Peak Design Capture Clip for those who are looking for a camera accessory to make carrying a large camera setup more comfortable while traveling.

This unique utility is one of the greatest innovations from Peak Design, a camera accessory company that specializes in coming up with new and creative solutions to photographers' trivial problems.

The Capture Clip allows you to attach your camera anywhere on your backpack or belt instead of having it hung around your neck like a regular camera strap, redistributing the camera weight to other parts of your body instead of your fragile neck, all the while freeing up your hands to do other things.

I hike a lot when I travel, and having a capture clip is such a lifesaver. I am no longer weighed down by the camera weight around my neck, and it has also freed my hands so that I can hike easier and scramble up a mountain without worrying about my camera swinging around, hitting rocks, and trees.

If you are looking for a small camera accessory that will improve your comfort of traveling with large photography gear tremendously, the Peak Design Capture Clip is something you should definitely consider buying.

Peak Design Anchor Link

Peak Design Anchor Link is another great solution to a trivial photographer's problem. This time, it solves the annoyance of having a camera strap always attached to your camera when you don't need it.

The Peak Design Anchor Link is an innovative lock-and-release mechanism for camera shoulder/wrist straps that allows you to quickly detach or switch between each camera strap you might want without having to fiddle with the complicated knots often seen in other camera straps.

The Anchor Link is not just compatible with the Peak Camera Straps, but it is also adaptable to other camera strap systems. This makes it a great gift to buy for photographers who may currently be using other camera straps.

It's also affordable and easy to install, so if you often find your camera straps getting in the way when you don't need them and wishing you can quickly attach/detach them whenever you want without hassles, the Peak Design Anchor Link is a perfect accessory for you.

3. A Lightweight Tripod

Peak Design Travel Tripod

Peak Design Travel Tripod: If you are looking for the very best lightweight yet sturdy tripod for travel, there is no better tripod than the Peak Design Travel Tripod. The tripod is extremely light, especially the carbon fiber version which weighs only 1.29kg (2.81 lbs).

The Peak Design Travel Tripod can reach a height of 152.4 cm (60 in) when fully deployed and measures only 39.1 cm (15.4 in) in length when collapsed, making it one of the most compact tripods to consider for mirrorless full-frame cameras.

It is also one of the best-designed tripods out there, with every feature extremely well-thought-out and engineered. That said, with so many innovative features, the Peak Design Travel Tripod is not cheap, but you are definitely getting what you paid for here.

Manfrotto Element Traveller Tripod

Manfrotto Element Traveller Tripod: For those of you who are looking for a lightweight tripod that is more affordable, the Manfrotto Element Traveller Tripod is another great alternative to the Peak Design Travel Tripod. It has a compact size when collapsed and weighs only 1.05 kg (2.31 lbs).

The Manfrotto Element Traveller Tripod is also 32 cm (12.6 in) when collapsed and goes up to 143 cm (56.3 in) when fully deployed, which is not bad for a lightweight tripod such as this. Best of all, the tripod only costs around 200 USD retail, one-third the price of the Peak Design Travel Tripod, making this one of the best value tripods to get.

4. ND and Polarization Filter (ND/PL)

PolarPro ND + Polarization Filter Quartzline

PolarPro ND + Polarization Filter Quartzline: One of the best camera accessories that can help you improve travel photography immediately is filters.

There are two types of filters that are extremely helpful when it comes to travel photography: the ND filter, which will allow you to take long exposure shots in daylight (great for waterfalls), and the polarization filter, which removes glares from wet objects and water, allowing you to see details you might not have seen with your eyes.

These two filters cannot be replicated in post-production. Therefore, if you are a landscape photographer planning to photograph woodlands or waterfalls, it is important to have these two filters with you.

The PolarPro ND + Polarization Filter combines these two filters into one, allowing you to adjust the darkness of the ND filter and the polarization direction. This single filter saves you space and eliminates the hassle of stacking filters.

If you are looking for a nice all-in-one ND and polarization filter that does not affect the image quality and detail, then the PolarPro's ND + Polarization Filter is the best filter to get.

K&F Concept ND + CPL Filter

K&F Concept ND + CPL Filter: If you are looking for something more affordable than PolarPro's ND + Polarization Filter, K&F Concept ND + CPL Filter also offers a great cheap filter that combines adjustable ND and polarization filters into one.

There is a little bit of a color cast on the photo when you shoot with the K&F filter, but for the price of only 80 USD and with their cutting-edge technology that prevents the ND filter from showing the dreadful X pattern, which often occurs when you over adjust the variable ND filter, this filter is, hands down, one of the best deals you can get.

Tips for buying filters: When buying a filter for your camera, make sure to buy ones with a diameter that fits your largest lenses.

Say, if you have 5 lenses and your largest lens has a diameter of 82mm, get the 82mm filter. Then, you can use step-up rings to adapt the 82mm filter to smaller lenses. That way, you only have to buy one filter and a few step-up rings, and then you can use that one filter on all of your lenses.

5. Battery Charger and Extra Batteries

Nitecore USN4 Pro external charger for the Sony a7C

Nitecore Camera Battery Charger Set: If you are new to mirrorless cameras, you will find that the battery life is nothing to brag about, and more often than not, you will often be out of battery before the end of the day, which is not ideal when you travel.

That is where the extra batteries and a battery charger come into play. You can often get the official battery and a battery charger from Sony, but they are often overpriced, and you can usually only charge one battery at a time.

In my opinion, getting a third-party battery charger like the Nitecore Camera Battery Charger is a much better value for your money. With the battery set, you get 2 extra batteries, a charger that supports USB-C, and 2 battery docks, allowing you to charge your batteries simultaneously.

The third-party batteries may not be as good as the official batteries, but for the price, you are essentially getting twice the battery life while paying for the price of one. If you are looking to get some extra batteries, get the third-party one that comes with a charger like the Nitecore Camera Battery Charger Set.

6. External Hard Drives

A man holding the Samsung T5 SSD 1 TB

Samsung T5 1TB: When you are on the road, you may often find yourself editing photos on the go, and sometimes, you might not have enough space to store all your photos on your computer.

Enters the Samsung T5 1TB portable SSD, which is an extremely fast and compact SSD portable drive that you can take with you and edit your photos straight from the hard drive.

Unlike the traditional hard drive, the SSD hard drive is much smaller and more durable, making it more suited for travel than the usual bulky hard drives. The SSD's speed also allows you to do all kinds of editing straight from the hard drive while also serving as a backup in case something happens to the files on your SD cards.

One tip I can give you is that if you are traveling with a laptop, be sure to attach Velcro (I recommend this 3M 2 sides Velcro) to your computer and your external hard drive. That way, you can simply attach it to the back of your laptop when you are working without having to worry that you might accidentally disconnect the hard drive.

7. Lightweight On-Camera Microphone

Rode VideoMic GO

Rode VideoMic GO: For those of you who are looking for a microphone to capture audio while you travel, you can never go wrong with a Rode VideoMic GO. It is a small and lightweight shotgun microphone that you can attach to the top of your camera and capture audio as you film.

The Rode VideoMic GO is an amazing accessory for vloggers because you can use it to record your own voice clearly while filming yourself, and also use it to capture the ambient sound of your environment.

It is also very light, affordable, and very easy to use. All you have to do is attach the microphone to the top of your camera, connect the audio jack, and voilà, you have finally upgraded your audio game a thousandfold.

Rode Wireless GO 2

Rode Wireless GO 2: If you are planning to do some travel documentaries that often involve interviewing other people or find yourself away from your camera, the Rode Wireless GO 2 microphone is a great alternative to the Rode VideoMic Go shotgun microphone.

The Rode Wireless Go 2 allows you to record audio wirelessly and simultaneously from 2 sound sources, which is great for interviews. With its tiny size, the Rode Wireless 2 is much more lightweight and less intrusive than the Rode VideoMic Go shotgun microphone.

If you are looking for a wireless solution for capturing audio while traveling, there is no better option than the Rode Wireless 2 microphone.

8. USB Chargers

Baseus 65W Wall Charger

Baseus 65W Wall Charger: With so many electronics in your travel bags nowadays, it can be quite a daunting task to keep them all juiced up and ready to use every day, especially with all the different types and specifications of USB chargers required to really take full advantage of all your devices.

The Baseus 65W Wall Charger is a great solution to charging problems. The charger comes in a very compact narrow block size where the plug can be collapsed and easily packed into your backpack. It also comes with 3 ports: 2 power delivery USB-C ports and one USB-A port for all your new and old devices.

You are also getting the 65-watt charging capability that you can use to fast charge devices like iPhones, Samsung Galaxy phones, and even your MacBook Air, which is pretty impressive for its size. If you are looking for a small and compact all-in-one charger to take with you on your travels, the Baseus 65W Wall Charger is hard to beat.

9. Power Bank + Portable Light

Nitecore SLC10 Power Bank

Nitecore SLC10 Power Bank: When it comes to travel, the smaller and more multifunctional your accessories are, the better. And that is exactly the case with the Nitecore SLC10 Power Bank. It is a power bank that can also be used as a portable light, perfect for improving your night photography.

The Nitecore SLC10 Power Bank is packed with a 10,000 mAh battery capacity that you can use to charge your phone three times. It comes with one USB-A port and USB-C with power delivery, which you can use to quickly charge all your devices.

What makes this power bank so unique is the bright and high CRI camera light that comes attached on the other side of the power bank, which you can use to light your subject when you take photos while you travel. The light can produce up to 800 lumens, and you can adjust the light temperature in real-time as you light the subject.

The light can also be used as an emergency light or a flashlight when you are camping and hiking, making this one of the most useful power banks you will ever find on the market.

he Sony Tough SD Cards

Sony Tough SD Card: Nothing feels more defeating to a photographer than losing all their photos due to SD Card failures. It is better to be safe than sorry when it comes to storage solutions on the go, and the safest option is to get one of these Sony Tough SD Cards.

The Sony Tough SD Cards are molded from one piece of high hardness material, which prevents you from accidentally bending them. They are highly waterproof and dustproof, and they come with all the features you would expect from high-quality SD cards, such as UHS-II grade, Class 10, U3 compliant, with fast read and write speeds.
