Belize

Much like what Suriname is to South America, Belize doesn't quite feel like it belongs in Central America. For one, the country was ruled by the British for much of its history, so the moment you cross the border from Guatemala into Belize, it feels like you are being transported from a Latin American country into a Caribbean one. The people are different, they speak English, and, most importantly, they are exceptionally friendly. To top it off, Belize has some truly impressive sights to explore, from its beautiful coastline, which I consider one of the best snorkeling destinations in the world, to its incredible Maya sites and ancient cities hidden throughout the jungle. It is a country unlike any of its neighbors and is definitely worth your undivided attention.
