This East Timor - A Timor-Leste Travel Video

Timor-Leste, also known as East Timor, is the newest country in the Southeast Asian bloc, having gained its independence in 2002. Despite its rich cultural heritage and stunning natural beauty, it remains one of the least traveled countries in Asia, with only 60,000 visitors last year. In comparison, its close neighbor, Indonesia, received over 1.32 million arrivals in the same period.

Intrigued by the allure of this relatively unknown land, I embarked on a 10-day journey to explore the untouched wonders of Timor-Leste in July 2018. What I found surpassed all expectations – unspoiled nature unlike anything I had seen before, warm-hearted and smiling locals, and a sense of authenticity untainted by the pressures of over-tourism.

During my trip, I witnessed the raw beauty of Timor-Leste's landscapes and the genuine kindness of its people. However, I also encountered the realities of poverty, underdeveloped infrastructure, and a fire incident in the city. The experience was a rollercoaster ride, challenging me to my limits, but it also rewarded me with an unparalleled sense of adventure.

Timor-Leste is a country with vast untapped potential for travelers seeking genuine and transformative experiences. It may have a long way to go in becoming a prominent destination, but for those who are drawn to real adventures and authentic encounters, this land offers an extraordinary opportunity.
