I'm enjoying my travel to Timor Leste at its best thanks to you guide. Thanks for spending time on doing it to us. I'm in Baucau now, and I am stay in a a permaculture farm hostel in Diwake, 15 minutes walk to the beach, a nice and quiet place to relax. The name is da Terra farm hostel, 15 USD per night + 3 usd per meal. I think it's a good deal for backpackers.

Thank you for the kind words Evelyn! I'm so glad you found my Timor Leste guides useful! Wow! That's awesome that you made it to Baucau! Thank you for the suggestion on accommodation there.
May I ask, how did you get to the beach? Did you have your own vehicle or relied on public transportation. I found it quite difficult to get to the beach from the bus stop so I didn't recommend anything by the beach.
Thanks again for the report back on your trip! :)

First I got a microlet to pousada do Baucau and walked 30 minutes towards Diwake, where Hostel da Terra is, it's a perm farm, 15usd per day with a poor breakfast, 20 minutes walk through the village to a deserted nice beach. There is another bungalow Down the beach, you can see at maps.me, no idea about the price. Back to the transport issue there's tons of microlet from the terminal to Diwake or uatobo/watobo beach especially at the school hours, morning, midday and around 5pm. 50cents the whole ride.

I was in Baucau in 1974, and stayed at La Perola Oriental Hotel which was the only place to stay and was on the main and only road. I wonder if it is still there. The people there were Makasai. Is it still spoken?

Update for September 2023:
The road from Dili to Baucau is excellent. There is a new coastal road and it would take just 2 to 3 hours to get to Baucau. Price for the bus is now $5.00
