Thank you Joyce! I highly recommend you bring all the camera gear you need. It is definitely worth the extra weight. Plus, you won't see stars like in the Gobi desert so often :) Be sure to bring a big power bank though as you will only have access to electricity every 2 days or more. I had 20,000 mah and it was more than enough for my camera and phone.
Great post, so informative. Breathtaking pics. Looking forward to my trip but until then, I guess I'll have to make do with my playlist of Mongolian music: https://resfeberblog.tumblr.com/.../comongolia-mongolia...
Hi Pete, I think your article is fantastic and you're also a really talented videomaker :)
It reminded me a lot of Stanislas Giroux's work (some examples here https://tinyurl.com/yb5n4fuf - sorry, couldn't find original source), which I'm sure you'll agree is a big compliment!
Great photos! Really useful information as well. I'm going on the same tour in a month! What filter/photo editing app do you use for your photos? They look great! Cheers mate
Thank you! One of the best country i've been to so far! Very unique and refreshing! I edit them with Lightroom using the VSCO presets on my macbook but i think you can do on your mobile devices too.
Awesome! Thanks for the tips :) going in a few days, can't wait!

Hello hello, Really beautiful creative video. Are you videoamaker? would you consider going back to Mongolia? I organize yoga tours to Mongolia and i am looking for photographer or videographer in my tour. :)

Hello. Thanks for sharing. I was just wondering is it safe for solo female traveling this tour?
You need to have a guide to go with you because there's no way to find ways around the vast land of Mongolia unless there's some one who can create an itinerary and guide you through the land. I have a friend who rent a jeep and go around themselves so it's not impossible, but you need to be well prepared. The Gobi desert is massive!

Hi Pete,
Really lovely post! I am planning to do a trip to Mongolia soon. Just wondering is this trip a total of 7 days/6 nights or 7 days/6 nights?
Also based on this, I am looking at the list of tours on the Sunpath website. Can you tell me which one among the list did you take? Thanks in advance

Hey Chris,
It was a custom tour (due to their schedule as I joined with another ongoing tours) in between their Golden Gobi Tour (6 days) and Gobi, Terelj & Kharakhorum Tour (9 days), so in total for me, it was like 7 - 8 days.
I hope this helps!
I hope this helps!

I love this post. Thanks for sharing. This might just be the missing piece in my deciding factors on how to spend my days in Mongolia. Btw, what month exactly did you go? Your photos are amazing!

Thank you Vetrina. I was there in June - July, which is recommended as the winter in Mongolia can be freezing cold, dark and not much you can do outside. :)

Hi, this is a really helpful post, I keep going over your itinerary and video as I plan my trip! Sorry could I trouble you with a few questions...
- I'm really torn about whether to book a tour only when we arrive in UB or before that. It feels very strange not having anything booked for the one week we are there (maybe that's just me!). Understand it's cheaper to book when in UB, but do you have any recommendations on customized tour operators if we decide to pre-book?
- The distances look quite far by road on Google Maps. Do you recall how many hours it took from South Gobi to Saikhan-Ovoo and then from Saikhan-Ovoo to Kharkhorin? The reason I ask is we are coming into and leaving Mongolia by Trans-Mongolian train where we are already sitting for many hours and days at a time hence would like to avoid more sitting in a car when we are in Mongolia. We are still deciding whether to spend a few days going to the Kharkorin area or cut it out and just spend time in UB/Terejl/South Gobi

Hi Bessie,
Thank you for the comments. Here are my answers:
- If you have a few days to spare in UB, definitely book it from UB but if you have a very strict schedule, maybe it is best to book it beforehand with fix date and time. I would recommend going with Sunpath tour (https://sunpath-mongolia.com/) I went with them and they were great. They even organize the tour to fit my schedule which was great.
- Yes, Gobi desert is quite spread out and you will be spending most of your days travelings while exploring Gobi desert. It took us 5 - 7 hours per day in a car to get to where we sleep that day but there are stops mid-way that should allow you to stretch a bit. Unfortunately, everything in Mongolia is quite far apart so there is no escaping sitting a lot. I can guarantee you, it will be worth it though.
I would say, if you are already in Mongolia, do everything you can do even if you don't feel like it. It's not often you will be traveling in Mongolia so I would say, take advantage of your time there. :) Kharkorin is quite nice and a great place to visit if you want to see the seat of power of the once mighty Mongol Empire.
Personally for me, after visiting all the Gobi attractions, Terejl was actually quite underwhelming as it is quite touristic among the locals due to how near it is to UB whereas all the other places in the Gobi are void of people. It was just me and nature which is why I was in Mongolia in the first place.

No problem Bessie! If you have any more questions, don't hesitate to ask me any time. :) Otherwise, good luck with your trip! Mongolia is out-of-this-world. Never seen so much space in my life! :)

Hey Pete,
Awesome post! Really a big help for me. Am planning to go once the COVID-19 restrictions are lifted. Hopefully can make the travel by July or August next year. Like you, am all for the natural beauty of the desert! Am thrilled at the thought of experiencing the Gobi desert. Thank you again!!!

Thank you for the comments, Neti. You are going to love the Gobi desert. The whole experience for me was so memorable, it's hard to describe how grateful I am being able to experience it in the first place. It's definitely a once-in-a-lifetime experience. :)
it's an awesome review... any comments you would like to make for a family of 4 with two kids ages 10 and 5? Doable?
Yes doable. :) It depends on how you feel about sitting long hours everyday. That said, it's adventurous but not dangerous.
Photos and videos are amazing :( will I regret if I don’t bring my dslr along?

I think it is safe here especially if you go around the desert with a tour, there should be no problem doing it.
what about renting a car and go by yourself ? would you recommend that ?
